The school started operating on September 13, 1973.
It covers the enrollment area of Kastel Kambelovac and Kastel Gomilica and with 35 departments and over 950 students is the largest elementary school in Kastel.
In response to spatial problems, a new annex was built with 6 specialized classrooms temporarily used for the newly established Kastela Gymnasium.
In 1990, the school was named "Prince Trpimir" in memory of Trpimir's grant from March 4, 852, when the Croatian name was first mentioned: "... dux Chroatorum invatis munre divino ..."
Therefore, we celebrate March 4 as School Day.
