Krbavsko polje

Nothing to do here and it's a middle of nowhere, but it's where one of the most important battle of the history of Croatia happen ! (against Turkish army). At the village entrance there is a small parking with a beautiful view over the valley where happen the battle, and, most of all, a panel to explain it (which for once doesn't seems nationalist: it explains that they loose the battle because they weren't prepared and organized enough). So we where happy to find those explanations in the middle of nowhere ! (Of course, I only advise to go here if you have a car).

9.9.1493 was tge day of the battle on this field. Kingdom of Croatia in union with Hungary against Ottoman Empire. We failed to win and Lika got under Ottoman Empire. Lots of lifes ended there, it is a big and important historical event. Today you can visit a museum, take a break from driving and enjoy silence. Not much to see or visit, no caffes or reataurants but you can buy domestic honey and cheese along the road.
