Villa Oliva – one word – outstanding! It is a gem that I am reluctant to tell you about as the secret will be out . . . . The Villa is perched on a hillside overlooking vineyards and olive groves, green foliage and, in the distance, the Adriatic. The area is rich with culture, food, olive oil and wine. My days in the region were skillfully organized by the Villa’s management to exceed every wish. I explored the nearby towns like Novigrad and fishing ports like beautiful Rovnij. as well as old coastal towns like Porec with its 6th century Euphrasian Basilica complex famous for its gem-studded Byzantine mosaics! Time was my barrier as I only touched the surface -- there is so much more to see and do! Food and wine…. If you are a foodie like me, you will be in heaven. A world-class organic vineyard is down the street and more is within a short drive. Olive oil producers are everywhere to educate you on the art of making this wonderfully healthy green liquid. Truffles – yes truffles. I accompanied the hounds in the hunt for truffles, found them, then brought them back to the Villa as a special addition to the evening meal. Fine dining is everywhere using local bounty from land and sea. Mind-blowing! Imagine a place that will surpass all your expectations and intoxicate all your senses. The Villa itself is a magical place to unwind and enjoy with family and friends. During the day you can take in the beautiful vistas from your lounge chair or the infinity pool and at night you can dance on the expansive terrace under the stars, pausing to enjoy the exceptional local wines, rivaling Italy’s best. I have been very blessed to stay at Villa Oliva a couple of times. I count the days until I am back in this beautiful space and region again. 5 stars ++ is my recommendation. Take it from me – you will go once, recall the experience often, and start the planning for the return visit. Enjoy!!
