Balbijev luk

Rovinj is the most beautiful city in Croatia for me. Rich history, beautiful architecture and a good atmosphere are always a good magnet to visit. Beautiful narrow buildings, squares, churches, streets, restaurants, bars make this place unparalleled. So is the entrance to the old city from the city square through the beautiful baroque Balbi's arch unique. Balbi's arch, Venetian structure is covered with stone. In its present place was once the main gate of a fortified city, the Porton della pescheria. In 1678 - 1679, the old city gates were demolished and Balbi's arch was built in their place. Built in the time of Mayor Daniel Balbi, as evidenced by the inscription on a stone slab placed on the arch. At the top of the arch is a figure of the head, on the outside of the arch is in Turkish style, and on the inside of the Venetian style. Also on Balbi's arch there is a figure of Venetian lion. Anyway interesting and nice.

Balbi's Arch (Croatian: Balbijev luk), in Rovinj, Croatia, was built in 1678–79.The arch leads to Grisia Street. On one side, there is the carved head of a Turk while on the other side is the carved head of a Venetian. It stands on the site of the old town gate.
