Balbi Restaurant

Oh my, what a find! Prior to visiting the Istrian region of Croatia, I did some research on traditional local cuisine. I found this macaroni that is very specific to the region called PLJUKANCI. It's a homemade pasta that is similar to penne in shape but not hollow in the center. I ordered it in a tomato ragu sauce with cherry tomatoes, zucchini, and shrimp. The shrimp actually taste like the sea...unlike what we are accustomed to in the US. Delicious stop for lunch...cannot go wrong with seafood, pasta or both. When visiting the Croatian coast, make sure your meals include something from the sea. It's fresh and local!

This restaurant was for which we've been looking for our whole stay in Croatia, searching for authentic seafood experiences. The service was perfect, the scenery is superquiet, you feel very local among the close street crossing. And the food was totally mind blowing. I haven't tried anything similar to that fish soup yet. Everything just tasted different than your typical "cook-from-frozen" restaurant approach! Wish I could go back sometime soon!

Food is good but inconsistent. First time we got a much better impression about the dishes, especially, the tuna steak, however today (3rd time), it didn't have much taste. prosciutto and fruit cold appetizer was great! Mussels and spaghetti so so.

This is an amazing restaurant and we absolutely enjoyed 2 meals here. We tried the fish soup, mussels in wine, sea bass, mixed fried fish and tuna steak. Everything was amazingly good and tasty. Service was really fast and the house wine (white) is definitely a must.

Very nice restaurant with friendly staff, it seems that it is a family business:) we tried fried mix, tuna steak and pancakes and all was delicious. They offer Aperol even if it is not in menu. Dogs are welcome.
