The second highest peak of magnificent Croatian giant, Velebit mountain. It is 1751m above sea level, a part of Paklenica National Park, and it is considered the most beautiful viewpoint in the whole Croatia. You can see everything from Lošinj to Vis, Dalmatinska Zagora, Lika, Zadar area and part of Bosnia.
Velebit is my favorite mountain and I am coming back whenever I can. But on Velebit you should assume worst weather conditions and then you will be ready and safe there. This time when going to Sveto Brdo peak in October weather forecast was very fine. And when we started from Libinje field which you can reach from Modrici with relatively good road not paved (macadam) preferably with 4WD it was cloudy. When we reached Dusice shelter it was starting to be cold and windy and when we were approaching Sveto brdo peak it was very strong southern wind Jugo with clouds so when we have reached peak it was very cold (25 on the start, less then 5 degrees Celsius on the peak) and visibility was zero because of clouds. We had to leave early and on the going back with another marked mountain trial via shelter Vlaski grad it was warm and sunny. We needed warm cloth on the peak to protect us from the cold and strong wind and you should always take it when climbing Velebit and do not go in summer btw. Nature was amazing but I will show it with pictures worth thousand words.
Best view on Velebit! 360 degrees view Lika on one side Paklenica and Velebit Chanel, Karin, Pag and other islands on the other side
Most iconic mountain in Velebit range. Climbed two times. Recommended
Sveto brdo is the second tallest peak on Velebit, reaching 1751 m.a.s.l. There is a rumor it is actually few meters higher than Vaganski vrh but is officially proclaimed lower due to different reasons. Anyway, it is the southest peak in Velebit range higher than 1500m, being very prominent and seen from every direction. It is a rocky, dome-shaped peak with a wooden cross on the top. There is also a stone plate with The Ten Commandments engraved on it. It is unique because of an open panorama of the coastline with islands to the west, Lika to the east and the rest of Velebit ridge/range to the north and south.
