When a good place is shadowed by a waiter without smile and bad manners

Far above average espresso: Not burnt beyond recognition and was not a mix but 100% arabica. 3rd wave coffee connoisseurs will find the taste wanting, but the lack of options in Split tells me that even the connoisseur might wish to stroll in. The cheese cake is one of the best in Split, and it is definitely better than you can find along Riva. Besides, the place is quiet and their choice of music is somewhat more forgiving to conversation than in most places.

The regular coffee is a bit above average, but the flavored coffee is one of the best I've ever tried. The cakes are from what I could find only of the cheesecake variant, but they were very tasty. I think their philosophy is to do a few things great instead of a lot of things average, which I like. The ambiance is lovely with a mix of jazz and elevator music. I'd say the interior design could be changed to a slightly more cozy and wooden interior instead of the modern/cozy mix they have going on. But that's a minor flaw. Would recommend to all my friends who wants a good cake along with their coffee, which seems hard to find in Split.

THIS PLACE WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU. I was enjoying my first visit to Croatia, when I was verbally and physically assaulted by an owner of this bakery. After buying a strawberry macaroon for 10 kunas, I used the restroom which was broken and unsanitary. I left the bakery and walked into the shop across the street where the store owner grabbed the macaroon from me and said it’s so gross, made of plastic and that I shouldn’t eat it. As I walked away from the shopping area I was grabbed from behind by the bakery owner.. She screamed that she would call the police on me, if I didn’t go scrub her bathroom because I didn’t eat the macaroon. She grabbed me by the arm and continued to scream that I’m an idiot, I need to leave her country, and she even questioned my gender. I was so scared that I agreed to clean the bathroom because she was screaming at me. When I didn’t argue back or react on her level she shoved out of the bakery. So I started leaving and she ran after me again and shoved me calling me an idiot. I have never been treated like that in my entire life. So warning to anyone who passes by, this is a place run by deeply corrupt individuals who will work to extort any visitor trying to enjoy their holiday. She was clearly try to get me to fight with her and go to jail. So unprofessional and disgusting.

The Choco Cafe is a pleasant, shaded spot just off the sea front. The owner, Damir, is an affable chap who goes out of his way to help. I’m glad I found the Choco Cafe, it made my stay in Split all the better.
