The Serbian orthodox church in Karlovac. Destroyed in civil war in 1990-es. Rebuilt after war.

The Church of St. Nicholas stands opposite the Church of the Holy Trinity and is part of the recognizable view of the city. It is the only Orthodox church in Karlovac. Its patron saint, St. Nicholas, is the most important saint and patron saint of many Orthodox families who have historically financed the construction of the church. In Christianity, St. Nicholas is also the protector of children, merchants, sailors, but also river navigation, thanks to which he is a logical choice for the protector of the Karlovac church through the historical development of Karlovac and its inhabitants. The church was built in 1786 according to the designs of the Karlovac fortification and guild builder Josip Stiller, the most important Karlovac builder of that period, whose urban solutions today shape the center of Zvijezda into a unique city view. The Church of St. Nicholas, in addition to the baroque bell tower that you will encounter on the first step to the square, hides an altar table, iconostasis and frescoes of the newly built and renovated church demolished during the Homeland War.

Beautiful interior, as bad as for the Franciscan church, as opposed to not being open every day to visit without having to ask anyone. I believe that some tourists who stray into Karlovac would be happy to visit, but unfortunately most of them pass through the main square on their way to Fogin without stopping at either.
