The Ursuline women are a Roman Catholic church order founded by St. Angela Merica in 1535 under the name of the Congregation of St. Ursula. Initially, they devoted themselves to the upbringing and religious instruction of girls abandoned by their parents, and to the care of the sick and the poor. Subsequently, it expanded into teaching secular subjects, with the opening of boarding schools and schools for female youth. The patron saint of the order is St. Ursula.

In part of the monastery today there is a kindergarten run by the nuns, and before that there was a high school of medicine. In Croatia, the Ursuline women begin their activities in Varazdin in 1703, where they established the first school, gymnasium and preparandia. The Croatian Union of Ursuline Sisters belongs to the Roman Union and has 7 communities and has 69 professed Sisters. They operate in Zagreb, Slavonski Brod, Varaždin, Rovinj and Zenica.
