The cannon foundry workshop was founded by György I. Rákóczi I. The now visible walls were built in 1631 (the only remnant of that era in Hungary). According to the experts, judging by the smaller remains, the founding of the foundry began after his marriage to Zsuzsanna Lorántffy in 1616. The workshop in Sárospatak is invaluable, as we do not know anything of this age in Hungary today. What's more, such a surviving ensemble is extremely rare in Europe, so it has attracted interest from foreign professionals as well.
