This is the ancient Hungarian symbol, one of the best known and most popular bird sculptures. Since 1907, he has been watching the landscape below from the top of the rocks rising above Tatabánya. One of the largest bird depictions in Europe. No wonder it is one of our Historic Monuments. From the monument there are several great hiking trails to the area, to the cave and to the lookout. You might want to check them out, too.

Tatabanya. Turul Monument. "The statue depicting the mythological bird of the Hungarians is one of the millennium monuments erected on the thousandth anniversary of the Hungarian Conquest. It is also known as one of the largest bird portraits in Europe, by Gyula Donáth.
