Classist, elitist, exclusive. For a non-profit organization with the mission of helping those who are in need of affordable housing, they are selective with their volunteers and donations, i.e., they select and are nice to the young, beautiful and wealthy -- it feels more of private exclusive club. The rest, they deride or make fun of (in Magyar) behind the middle-aged, non-attractive volunteer's back. Show's the HfH Magyaryorzag's insecurities. One of its staff coordinators would visit a build site, not introduce himself and walk around like a foreman at a construction site. Their volunteer coordinators, both past and present are haughty, conceited, and supercilious. They only acknowledge and appreciate the powerful, beautiful, and moneyed volunteers, or who they deemed beautiful, powerful, and wealthy. They disregard the time and effort that the retirees and others who really want to providing affordable housing in Hungary. But the sales team who choose to volunteer here instead of getting a bonus or going on a luxury vacation are put on high regards. How's that any different from that retiree who saved his/her money and could've spent his/her money and time leisurely somewhere else? Not to mention they go out of their way to ensure that certain groups or "volunteers" (i.e. the young, wealthy folks from the West Coast U.S.A.) are accommodated and shown around and feel welcome and like royalty and not do any work but chat and party and have an amazeballs time of their life at the expense of being subsidized by Habit for Humanity and its donors. I have been to other HfH International Build, and participating in a Hungary build had left me discontented and peevish --left a bitter taste in my mouth. Build and volunteer at your own risk, if you choose to still participate in Habitat for Humanity International Hungary trip. Sok szerencsét!
