In the beginning of 1910's Pécs was as beautiful as today and was attracting more people, more people were moving in to this city. In 1910 Pécs's population was almost 50.000, so establishing proper public transport was a must. In order to solve the public transport issue of the growing population, the construction of the tram network began on April 12, 1913. A total of 3 lines were built and first tram ran on 20th October of 1913. Last bell of trams was heard in the streets of Pécs in 31st of August, 1960. City administration decided to remove trams from service because of high cost and trams weren't modern. You can still see some relics of tramlines in the streets of Pécs like pairs of rails, memorial tram car and rosette top wire hooks on building.

It's great to see a tram in Pécs City Centre. Admission is free and well worth a visit!
