Matyó Múzeum Mezőkövesd

Interesting display of traditional clothing from the past. The shop offers some clothes for sale. Nearby is the Hadas artists quarter.

We have now been visiting the Matyo-area for more than 20 years and have never seen this beautiful little museum - and what a pity. It is really a cosy museum, and a nice lady upstairs was really helpful and knowing. She told us a lot about tradition and peasant life in Hungary in the old times. We can really recommend this little museum and don’t hesitate to ask question, the staff is very kind and helpful. Across the street there is a very beautiful art exhibition which We also can recommend mostly.

It is a small museum but worth to visit if you are interested in Matyo’s folklore culture and handcrafts. The descriptions are written in Hungarian basically but Translation sheets are available in English and German, perhaps Russian. The most of staff don’t speak English but they are really helpful. a lady in the shop speaks little English. I came from Budapest by train but it was good for day trip.

A nice Museum about the Matyo art, especially stitching and furniture.

The costumes are very beautiful.
