Fast service and a steady supply of bread. Good food that came out perfectly and only a little slow because they were very busy, so it's excusable. I recommend it!
I hope you like reading, because my review will be a little lengthy. Full English and German menu included, they have a website as well, I did not check but I assume the menu will be posted there.
Typical for an out-of-the-way Hungarian restaurant, but with quite the beautiful view! My cousin's husband recommended my family visit this place, and we couldn't have guessed what we were getting in to. Beginning with other reviews' claim of understaffing and slow service, I feel that the amount of staff with the quality of food explains the service, yet if I were to agree with slow, I would only agree with it being a little slow. We had two visits and two different servers, and these young men were busy, but never waivered in providing excellent service! Please, sit near a window on the side close to the hotel next door for an amazing view, pic attached!
Now for the meat and potatoes of this review, quite literally. Living in Tiszafüred, it takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to make the trip. And the food is so good, we made the trip twice! We had cravings for the venison that needed satisfaction.
Menu item #6 I highly recommend you try the full portion of the venison gulyásleves (soup) with mushrooms. It is so good you will have regrets with the small portion. Good amount of tender meat and tasty mushrooms.
Menu item #19 Little Fisherman's dish is absolutely fantastic. An amazing combination of flavors, enough meat to satisfy any man, and perfectly cooked fries (This was a substitute, as I don't like boiled potatoes. My brother subbed with mashed potatoes that were good enough to make us wonder which was the better decision)
Menu item #31 Venison stewed with juniper and the famous Bull's Blood red wine. This was surprisingly good. Truly, if you love beef, you will wish for the ability to eat this venison instead every time! The hot crispy and pillowy soft in the middle potato croquettes were a wonderful addition to help clean the plate of all of the delicious sauce.
Menu item #32 Lemony venison. This, and the Fisherman's dish, and the soup, and the palacsinta, but MOSTLY THIS is what made the second return trip happen. I ordered this the first time we visited. I have no words to describe how good it is. I kept making sounds, and my mom and brother asked for a taste. I made the mistake of agreeing, because they kept taking more and more. This made it possible for me to taste their dishes, which is how we all decided 2 days later we had to make the srive again just to eat. Whatever compliments I gave the red wine venison, this surpassed it easily, and everyone was in agreement. This is a truly 10/10 dish.
Menu items #50, 52, 54 Are you all full of food? You say "I couldn't eat any more." Yes. Yes you can. Finding palacsinta this good... It's almost regrettable. The memory will haunt you, knowing there is only one place to go for it. I make palacsinta at home in the USA. I make 8/10 palacsinta. This place, makes 10/10 palacsinta. It is so damn good, that on our second visit, they ran out! My mother and brother ordered first, and I was still enjoying my beer, letting my food settle. What a mistake. By the time I ordered mine, the other customers had ordered the last. I decided to try for the first time a Somloi trifle. Absolutely delicious. But I have to explain.... The palacsinta. It's so good, that the restaurant CAN run out. It is of no fault by the establishment. In fact it speaks volumes. For the record, I prefer the jelly palacsinta over the berries.
I will most likely visit this restaurant two times per vacation because I need another taste. If they had a location in Los Angeles they would make an absolute killing! I must go have some palinka to suppress the memory of food that I must wait a year to have again.
Wonderful location facing the fishing lake and Bél-kő, traditional Hungarian fare done properly. They were a little understaffed when we were here, but it was a sunny Easter Saturday.
Amazing hidden gem. Good price, fantastic location. Food is gorgeous. Will coming back!
