Zárkándy Bastion

Zárkándy Bastion alias Tűz Castle, an Italian ear bastion protecting the northeast corner of Eger Castle, which was started to be built in 1568 and named after Pál Zárkándy, Lieutenant General Gergely Bornemissza. The eastern side of the castle was protected with the Zárkándy bastion and the ear-shaped bastion in the southeastern part of the castle. In 1596, during the second Turkish siege, the Zárkándy bastion was mined and blown up by the Turks. After the Turks occupied the castle (because the defenders gave it up), the Turks rebuilt the bastion, i.e. the current ruin bastion, a Turkish bastion. In 1907, when the Eger-Putnok railway line was built, the Zárkándy bastion was separated from the Eger castle. Thus, the castle of Eger is the only castle through which a railway line passes through it. (I rewrote a little).
