Magyary Károly Általános Iskola

There is an accurate record of the construction of an "oscola house" in Kerecsend from 1766, but this was presumably not the first school building. The new school mentions four doors and eight windows, suggesting that the teacher's apartment was also located in the building. The school furniture consisted of 2 long tables and two long chairs for students; this was done by the judge. The superintendent of Kerecsend, as the old building was supposed to be in ruins, and because of its small size, decided on June 12, 1807 to build a new school. The school building was rebuilt in 1853. The archbishop supported the renovation with most of the materials and 2,000 peng ft from the parish cash. The village contributed 30 iron benches, a table and 30 new benches. Later, the Kantor lodge was rebuilt. In 2003, the school took the name of its renowned cantor teacher, Károly Magyary, and commemorated a bust in the school garden. Also this year, the school became a member of the European Network of Innovative Schools.
