They don't play retro, they ARE retro. I assume nothing changed in the last 50 years in this restaurant, everything is the same, including the main staff. The waiters are nice and polite, one can see they work with great routine. The food is cheap and plenty and while you can't expect Michelin quality here, it is very good for the price. I got a menu, including a soup, a main, bread and a wine for 1500 HUF. The place is huge, you can sit inside next to some socialist style frescos, or at the entrance, still in warm. You have to pay inside anyway, as an old, remaining Hungarian habit, there is a cashier, you have to tell him the number of your table to pay. You can pay with card, too.

Excellent cultural and gastronomic experience of the old Hungarian kitchen. Sitting outside is just amazing!

Good place, easy to spot and has WiFi

Undet the giant chestnut trees you are served decent Hungarian dishes to the locals and those visiting the local thermal spa and the castle. Try the rabbit ragout soup or the rabbit hunter style with bread balls for speciality, both fantastic. The set meal for about USD5 is a lsrge portion of hearty soup and a traditional tasty dish such as paprika chicken with dumplings and cabbage salad, for example. There is usually a choice of 3 for the set menu. Simple pancakes with a variety of filling or icecream tge usual choice for sweets. Unfortunately they close early, 4pm in the winter, bit later 6 I think in the summer. The atmosphere busy but friendly. Also local famous Villány wines available.
