Mayor's office

I was co-authoring the material: Zsolt Nagy Imre-Gencs Mária The former neo-Renaissance county house, built in 1883, stands on the main square of the town, and it preserves the memory of Szentes from 1883 to 1950 as the county seat. The building was designed by Endre Makay. Construction began already in 1881, but the contractor used poor quality materials, causing static defects, so the construction was stopped for a year. The first solemn assembly was held on December 10, 1883. At the large windows of the facade of the county house, there are 6 statues of women, depicting various crafts: agriculture, cottage industry, shipping, hunting, trade, fishing. The façade wall originally consisted of bare bricks, but eventually had to be plastered because of the different color of the bricks. After Hódmezővásárhely was moved to the county seat in 1950, the building was replaced by the Szentes District Council and the County Land Office, and the county archives remained here. Other offices were housed in the district after the district ceased to exist in 1984, but by the 1990s only the archives had been defeated by the building's extensive deterioration by then. The complete renovation took place in 2004-2005, with the ceremony being handed over in January 2006. The building houses the József Koszta Museum, serves as a conference center and is also suitable for organizing balls and other social events.
