The highest spring in the Kőszeg Mountains originates at 713 meters. The water extraction site was located in the XVIII. It was known as the Csarnas Well until the 16th century and was then christened the Hörmann Spring, commemorating Mihály Hörmann, who is surrounded by several legends. One states that the XVI. In the 16th century, Miklós Jurisics, the captain of the castle of Köszeg, sent him on a secret reconnaissance trip, but he was captured by the Turks and skinned alive at the source with special cruelty. According to another story, however, it was Hörmann's idea that whoever betrayed his homeland and allied himself with the Turks would be skinned alive as a punishment. It turned out that the Turks had managed to bribe him himself, so he fell into his own trap, as he could not swim the punishment he had inflicted. However, historical sources do not support the existence of a soldier named Hörmann who lived in the age of Jurisics. According to another assumption, during the time of Gábor Bethlen, the imperial armies attacked the castle of Kőszeg with enormous force, which would have been impossible to repel. At that time, a knight named Mihály Hömann set fire to the remaining gunpowder before the eyes of the enemy, so that it could not be used by the attackers against the Hungarians. Hörmann fled and tried to find shelter in a cave, but was eventually captured by the enemy at the Hall Well and skinned alive. A dagger is still kept within the walls of the Kőszeg castle, with which the verdict was allegedly carried out, and in the castle park, the Hörmann stone commemorates the legendary figure. Due to the easy access to the spring in the embrace of beeches and pine forests, it is a popular starting point for hikes. A roof was carved over its socket, where we could retreat from a small waterfall.
