Hotel Európa Gunaras

Difficult to rate this place as there is a mix of positives and negatives to consider. I am also not  familiar with the general hotel standard in  this country/region as this  is my first visit to  Hungary. So I am making this review against international standards - what I've come to  expect based on hotels I've visited in other countries. Maybe I am too negatice compared to the local standard. Anyway: Positives: - Good sized and relatively modern room with a very nice balcony facing the back side with trees just outside. The trees are limiting the view but also providing some good shade from the sun. - Very nice and helpful young man in reception on check-in and check-out. - Hotel  parking  right next to the hotel,  shaded by  trees.  Always some free spaces during our visit. Negatives : - Air Con not possible to adjust below 25C and not operational during some parts of the day so generally too hot in the room. - Breakfast in an adjacent building with a very limited selection. Things supposed to be refrigerated are not - e.g. yoghurt and cheese are not kept cold. Breakfast terrace with simple plastic chairs and  broken floor tiles. - Loud music from the adjacent public pool area starting at 8 AM and going all day. - The glass wall next to the main staircase is unbelievably dirty - looks like it has not been cleaned since the hotel was built. Public spaces generally not well maintained. - We put out the sign on the door handle requesting the room to be cleaned. They made the beds but the bathroom had not been touched. The following day it was OK. - As the towels had not been changed, we asked for  new ones from a young girl in reception. She was very uncommunicative and difficult to talk to. But we  did get the towels eventually. - Fire safety - room doors are using old fashion keys - from the outside as well as from within. So if you want to lock your door at night you have to use the key - and it was kind of harsh and difficult to turn. Would not want to get stuck behind a locked door in this room in case of a fire... To sum it up - if some of the negatives could be fixed then there would be potential for a higher rating.

Just for sleeping. Not too clean. Eating takes place in another building.

The room was fine. The reception is a bit inflexible. The meal, on the other hand, is awful!

Cleanliness is everywhere, the bed is comfortable, the food is delicious, there is a play area for small children, free billiards and ping-pong for the older ones, massages for a surcharge, the staff is close to the beach. Excellent value for money.

Pleasant environment, very nice clean rooms.
