Dessewffy Castle is a 19th century castle built in the Classicist style, located in Tiszavasvár, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. The castle was built by the Dessewffy family around 1820. It underwent two major transformations in the 1850s and 1870s, respectively, before it took on its present form. Nowadays, the building housed the dormitory of the Pál Vasvári Secondary School and Vocational School in Tiszavasvár. The one-storey mansion, built in the Classicist architectural style, was built by the Dessewffy family around 1820 on the site of a Tartar maple loess oak monster. The building that forms the core of the present castle, as well as the ground floor in the middle and the risalit on both sides, were built by a member of the family, József Dessewffy (1771–1843), an academic member of parliament, publicist and poet. The count became friends with the outstanding language innovator of the age, Ferenc Kazinczy, thanks to which the writer turned to this place several times. In 1833, the Count's wife also erected a chapel in the building's immediate area, which was later connected to the building by the construction of an arched wing, so that work on the construction of Dessewffy Castle was finally completed in 1934. The family used the building as a summer residence after construction. In the middle of the 19th century, when it was owned by the academic journalist Emil Dessewffy (1814–1866), the castle underwent a major extension, during which single-storey corner pavilions were attached to the right-hand part of the building. Around 1870, when Aurél Dessewffy (1846–1928), an academic judge, owned the castle, the building underwent a second, and last, major renovation. In fact, thanks to this extension with the addition of a floor, the castle has gained its shape that is still visible today. During the Second World War, the then lord of the castle, Count István Dessewffy, hosted German flight officers in the building. After the liberation, on February 20, 1946, a farmer training course was started in the castle under the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture. Until 1968, there was an agricultural vocational school and a vocational training institute in the castle, within the framework of which, among other things, it also housed a dormitory.
