On the border of Hódmezővásárhely in the XX. At the beginning of the 19th century, there were still 66 farming circles and reading circles. Some of the XIX. at the end of the 19th century, most of them were formed in the 1900s. One of the first was the Pusztafeketehalom Reading Association, founded in December 1890. The reading circles on the homestead were created with the aim of creating cultural and entertainment opportunities for those living far from the city. At first they gathered at the school or at the farm of a farmer, later they built a headquarters together. The Pusztafeketehalom Reading Circle was donated by a modest farmer, the building was built by the membership itself around the turn of the century. The large hall, which seats 150-200 people, was suitable for lectures, balls, social dinners and weddings. It was furnished with horse benches and goat-legged tables. The Royal Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture donated a bookcase and books on fiction and history to the readership. The portraits of Rákóczi, Kossuth, Petőfi and the oil print of the Battle of Mohács hung on the walls of the room. Next to the great hall was the drinker, where he measured the iced drink to the guests. The folk plays on stage were taught by the local teacher, so the community was also a cohesive force for the highly popular performances. The ball was held four times a year: at carnival, at Peter and Paul's time, at harvest time and on Catherine's Day. At such times, the flag of the circle was hoisted on the acacia tree in front of the building a few days earlier, and that afternoon the brass band set to music. In good weather, the ball was held in tents set up in the courtyard. Older people declared March 15 to be the most significant event of the circle. At that time, the sheep stew was simmering in five or six cauldrons, and the people gathered at the reading circle remembered the 1848 revolution. In the winter, a silver cereal course was organized, a series of lectures for women in the home industry was organized and economic activities were carried out in many circles: they procured fertilizer, seed and set up a milk collection station together. At the back end of the building is the caretaker's room-kitchen apartment. Its furniture and simple furnishings reflect the social situation of its inhabitants: he was a destitute poor peasant who cleaned for free housing, experienced and limeed the building of the circle every year. The Kugl track in Hódmezővásárhely, Inner Elizabeth was also installed in the courtyard. Reading circles, along with other social associations, were disbanded in 1949, and the buildings were largely utilized by the emerging producer cooperatives.
