Ópusztaszer: Tiszai gátőrház

The Tisza Valley was a real wild water country. Nevertheless, or for this reason, it was already inhabited in prehistoric times and then in the age of migration. The settlements were established mainly on the flood-free levels, but the inhabitants still had to defend themselves against unexpected waters, raising embankments. The works on the Tisza water regulation were completed by 1905. With the construction of the defenses and embankments, new tasks arose. The monitoring and care of the embankments became the task of the dams. Therefore, a row of dam houses was built on the saved sides. In the outbuilding you can see the terrain table of the great flood of the Tisza in 1879, which presents the terrible flood with sound, light and image effects.
