The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy's largest World War I war prisoner camp was the Ostffyasszonyfa camp built on the territory of Hungary. It was built at a cost of 8 million crowns, accommodating 50,000 people, and was named after a nearby railway station. During the four-year camp / 1915-1918 / operation, approximately 150,000 war prisoners turned in the camp, 10,000 of them never returned home. They found the eternal tranquility in the camp cemetery. The size of the camp is indicated by the fact that it had its own paper money. The cemetery was preserved with grace between the two world wars, and for decades they listened to the camp, the cemetery, and the memory of the soldiers. The change of regime had to wind up the tombs in the 1980s. Since 1989, every year, dead people have a daily commemoration here. Military reverence, ecumenical mourning remembrance reminds of soldiers who have never returned home from war, resting on land.
