Great place, nature and medieval atmosphere, but the prices are high for only having the bare minimum. Sometimes you have to wait for 10-15 minutes for hot water, there were spider webs near the beds.

This hotel seemed to have great potential from the website. It sits on beautiful Hungarian farmland overlooking rolling hills with sheep and horses roaming free. There are also forest tracts with herds of deer. All this is destroyed however by the horrible attitude of the staff and the atrocious state of the rooms. Our troubles started when making the booking. First of all nobody spoke English, as in couldn't even understand the word Hello. No worries, my girlfriend is Hungarian so I asked her to call. They said that they were only taking bookings for people going to the nearby music festival, which we were, so that was fine. They said that since so many people were boking we could only book for the entire week, but since the total price would be low enough that was also fine. We tried to get a confirmation over e-mail that we actually had the booking, tried sending multiple emails in Hungarian to ask if they wanted some deposit to secure the booking but they were completely opaque in their answers so at the time we traveled there we were unsure whether or not we would have a room waiting for us. Furthermore we had been informed that there would be a shuttle bus from the train station that would take us to the hotel, which is good since this is out in the countryside and public transportation or even taxis are pretty much non-existent. When we arrived at the train station in the early afternoon there was no transportation to the hotel. We called them and they said it was impossible to arrange for anyone to come pick us up. We had to drag our luggage to a nearby store and try to negotiate with the store owner to see if anyone would drive us to the hotel for a fee, which fortunately we were able to do. Upon arriving at the hotel it became quite obvious that we were the only guests there. It was also quite obvious that they were not particularly happy to see us at all. Everybody looked angry and dour and it took a good ten minutes to find out who was actually supposed to check us in and show us to our room. Again, nobody spoke even the most basic of English, or didn't want to, who knows? Eventually they showed us to our room away from the main building. The state of the room was dirty and decrepit to say the least. The bed was dirty and was broken on the side, the curtains didn't cover the entire window, the bathroom didn't have shower curtains but did have a huge red plastic garbage can with an ice-cream logo of the style you see outside kiosks. The towels provided had holes in them. There were flies in the room at all times, and spiders to take care of the flies. The staff informed us that the key we had been given initially was too nice for "festival people" so we were given the spare key instead. We asked for breakfast and were informed after many annoyed sighs that they could maybe make some scrambled eggs. To this we were given some week-old bread, some stale coffee and some jam. This feast was not included in our room-rate but was charged an additional 1400 forints per person (5€) which might not seem like much, but in a Hungarian context is quite a rip-off. They then informed us that there would be no transportation to the festival from the hotel (something which had been stated on the website), but we would have to walk the distance ourselves, about 3km. Nobody had been to the room to clean or change sheets/towels. After we specifically asked, and again with annoyed faces they said they would clean the room, which meant that they put in stained sheets that barely covered the bottom of the bed and no cleaning. When we checked out they tried to cheat us on the price, then complained loudly at the low room rate in front of us. Then tried to overcharge us for being transported to the train station. Then told my girlfriend that she should take me back to Sweden. I've been to hotels all around the world in all different price-ranges, but I have never had such a horrible experience from start to finish than I had at this horrible excuse for a hotel. We didn't get a receipt for our stay either. Avoid like the plague!

Kind, hospitable staff, real Hungarian inscriptions, sculptures (King Matthias), buildings, beautiful forest landscape, fresh air. Lots of leisure facilities and comfortable accommodation at cheap rates. I liked it!

The environment and the hotel are fantastic too. I'm sure we'll be in line for a weekend here yet.
