It is really a shame that everything looks very dilapidated and although there is an information board there, it is in poor condition. It would be a very interesting place with a lot of history. The project co-financed by the EU also seems to be stranded somehow, a shame.

A IV. Today, from the Roman fortress built in the 16th century, the walled structures of the gate, the three-aisled basilica and the remains of the state warehouse can be seen. In Roman times, the roads crossing the province from Aquileia on the Adriatic to Aquincum (Óbuda) and from Sopianae (Pécs) to Savaria (Szombathely) crossed at the Fenékpuszta crossing. A IV. The Fenékpuszta fortress was built in the 16th century. From 433, Transdanubia came under the rule of the Huns, and then the Eastern Goths became the lords of this area. Their king, Thiudimer, chose the fortress of Fenékpuszta as his seat. Later, Transdanubia became part of the Avar Empire. As auxiliary people, the Avars settled a Christian population in the area, whose special material culture is called Keszthely culture by archaeological research. Unlike other Pannonian fortresses, the Fenékpuszta was also in use during the migration period. It was presumably destroyed by the conquering Hungarians. Could the area be more well-groomed, I couldn’t read the information board because it was heavily worn. I accidentally found the place and looked it up on the internet. These values should be better valued in the country.

Excavations are still underway in the area. The visible parts (south gate, granary, ...) are unfortunately weedy.
