In the “middle of the Bakony”, in the abundance of the largest forests, a steep, rocky-rocky side gravel forest road carved into the hillsides leads to a small plateau from which we can admire the highest peaks and largest forests of the Bakony. This is the Witt lookout tower, named after Lajos Witt (1898-1994), a forest engineer. A forest engineer who also worked for the Pope-Ugod Religious Commission, he had to leave the country in 1957 and emigrated to Canada with his family. He died in Vancouver in 1994. His last wish was to lay his ashes in his Hungarian homeland, Ugandan land, forever. This wish was fulfilled by his family on August 28, 1998, and his ashes rest forever in the forest of Ugod.
