Viktor Maderspach (1875-1941) was one of the defining personalities of the Hungarians of Southern Transylvania. An engineer, a famous hunter of the Carpathians, a soldier of solid character, a multi-award winning front warrior of World War I, an unwavering patriot who made great sacrifices for Transylvania and the Hungarian Homeland. As a member of the Rongyos Guard, he took part in keeping Sopron and its surroundings, forcing the 1921 fateful referendum. From 1934 until his death on October 3, 1941, he lived with his family in Mátyásföld.
