Very bad service! After losing my id they wouldn’t change the booking from my name into my partner’s name to rent the car. We either had to make a new booking and pay double!! the price or cancell the booking without any refund!!
Really not flexible!!
Absolutely the most unscrupulous business practices imaginable, echoed frequently on not just this website. Check others. Lowest rating in the airport on all review sites. Beware. Rent here as a last resort. Personally, I’d rather walk carrying my bags than trust this company again. Don’t be fooled by their recent responsiveness to people’s complaints. I’ve been flying in and out of Budapest for 20 years and this company has had a bad reputation from day one they arrived. Beware the two other companies they share a counter with. The same Hungarian concessionaire probably owns all three and I doubt business practices are any different between the three. Happy to share photos where they claim 800 euros damage to my car.
Major improvement and excellent service
We rarely rented at Buchbinder in the past due to regularly experiencing worse service in comparison to competitors. Cars were also oversold in the past (you needed to book Intermediate if you wanted a Compact like at international rental car companies) and extras charged on top (e.g. winter tires while it was always included with international competition).
This time it has been a very positive surprise. Not only service quality was on international level - very polite and customer focused - but everything else has been as well. Also the experience upon return was excellent.
On this level Buchbinder is a real recommendation!
. Don't be tempted by the low prices
The company will find you a little unrecognizable scratch and will charge double the rent. That's how they did to us in two different vehicles. A dishonest way to make money. Attached are pictures of the 'damage' they charged for 475 euros
Beyond the bright markings they made on the computer, I can't see anything
Stay away
I never write reviews but I feel compelled to warn others of very unprofessional and rude behavior while renting cars from Buchbinder, Budapest airport. I have never been treated with such disrespect and at one point I was even loudly berated in front of my wife, children and others waiting for their cars.
We stayed in Hungary for almost a month this summer and we rented 3 different cars of different sizes at different times depending on the number of companions we had and where in the country we were travelling.
I prepaid all of my bookings through Holiday Cars. I also paid for the highest insurance coverage for all of the cars.
The first car: I was asked by the man behind the counter if I would like to purchase insurance for the car. I found this question surprising. I did not realize at the time that my insurance policy was with Holiday Cars and not Buchbinder. My misunderstanding. I asked him to explain why there was no record of this on the Buchbinder system. At this point he raised his voice and said that most people understand this (essentially calling me stupid) and that he didn't have time for this. He then swiped his arm through the air as if to brush me to the side, looked at the people behind me and held out his hand for their documents. They (and everyone else) were as shocked about this as we were! When the man chose to speak to us again I asked him about a baby seat for our 2 year old. (I understand that child seats are subject to availability) He gave us a booster seat. A baby is too small for a booster seat. I asked him if there were other options - he asked about the weight and said no, they didn't have any. He said - just take the booster seat - it will be fine. Again I said that he was too small and he again raised his voice and said that I should leave my family at the airport, drive to Budapest and buy a child seat. The others in the line were shocked about the rude way he answered and told him to shape up! His colleagues sitting beside him behind the counter were snickering and joking between themselves about the situation. It was 38 degrees, no air conditioning in the terminal and with a crying baby and an upset wife I just asked for the keys. we'll find a solution somehow. At the pick-up booth there were several baby seats available. I asked the man in the booth to give me the correct seat. He asked the weight and said that they didn't have any! I looked closer at the sticker on the seats and they all fit - depending on which way the seat was facing. I suggested to him that they should make themselves familiar with these seats - I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to make sure that my baby is travelling safely. His response was "I don't care about the safety of your f*ucking kid, I have enough to think about"! This man (tall, skinny with little hair - working at 12:30 on July 1) should not be working with anything to do with customer service. I am completely shocked about this experience and will do my very best to forget the incident.
Car 3: I picked up a different car and drove downtown to pick up my party. We then headed towards Balaton on the M7. As the speed increased there came a serious vibration and a very loud humming for the undercarriage. The car was also pulling hard to the right. It was so loud that we could not speak. I pulled over just before Szekesfehervar and called Buchbinder. I finally got through after 40 minutes of calling. I explained the situation. They told me to return to the airport to get the car replaced. They did not offer to bring the car to us. It took us 90 minutes to get back because of the traffic on the M0. Upon arrival they commented that I didn't fill the fuel tank and I was interrogated about why I drove so long. At no time was there focus on why the car wasn't safety-checked before it was given to me. At no time did anyone at Buchbinder apologize to us. No form of compensation for losing half a day of our vacation and missing an appointment earlier. I will however have to pay a penalty for not filling up the tank! Unacceptable and terrible conduct!
