Short ProfilennEvangelism for the Dayaks in Kalimantan began with Zending Barmen (RMG) sending two evangelists from Germany, Heyer and Branstein who arrived in Jakarta on December 13, 1834. But only Branstein left for Kalimantan and arrived in Banjarmasin on June 26, 1835. Then 3 December 1836 Three more evangelists arrived, namely Beeker, Hupperts and Krusman. They were immediately placed in the interior. The first baptism took place on April 10, 1839, which was served by Hupperts. Gospel messages are also accompanied by deaconess services, such as education, health and slave liberation. The ups and downs occurred during World War I where the RMG handed the missionary work to Zending Basel in Switzerland in 1920. Zending Basel continued and developed the previous RMG work, until the founding of the Theological College in 1932. Zending Basel, which gave birth to the birth of the Evangelical Dayak Church organization ) on April 4, 1935 through the General Synod. This is the first General Synod of GDE. But during the Japanese occupation, GDE broke up with Zending. Furthermore, GDE was led by the first Dayak priest, Rev. H. Dingang Patianom. GDE pastors are aware that the church is not only for Dayaks, but is open to everyone. Therefore, through the General Session V dated 5-9 November 1950 it was decided that GDE would change its name to the Kalimantan Evangelical Church (GKE).nnStarting in 1960 the GKE expanded its service area to East Kalimantan and West Kalimantan. Since then, the GKE service area has covered the entire Kalimantan region. The Reformed denominated GKE has been a member of the PGI since its inception, May 25, 1950.
