The University of North Sumatra (USU) was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno on November 20, 1957, domiciled in Medan, North Sumatra. Initially, USU only had three faculties, namely the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Law and Social Knowledge, and the Teacher Training and Education Faculty.nBefore the Directorate General of Higher Education established multistrata education policies, USU had produced a number of Doctors in Law and Medical Sciences. During the same time the USU Faculty of Medicine has also developed various Specialist Education Programs.nThe USU Postgraduate School began with the Credit Collection Activities (KPK) of IPB-USU in 1985 for the study program of Soil Science, Natural Resource Management and the Environment, and Regional and Rural Development Planning. -USU.nStarting in the 1992/1993 academic year S2 Regional and Rural Development Planning study program, S2 Land Science study program, S2 Natural Resources and Environmental Management study program, Agronomy S2 study program, and S2 Law Science study program fully conducting academic processes at the University of North Sumatra under management of the USU Postgraduate Program. In accordance with the development needs of graduates and the availability of resources at USU until 2010 almost all undergraduate programs have master and doctoral programs.nBased on university policy and referring to USU BHMN AD / ART in 2009 a master's and doctorate monodisciplinary study program transfers management to faculty. Master programs returned to faculty total 21 study programs and doctoral study programs totaling 5 study programs. Some monodisciplinary study programs are still managed at USU Postgraduate Schools until 2013.nAt present USU has 62 postgraduate study programs consisting of 40 master study programs and 22 doctoral study programs, with 6 study programs (2 doctoral study programs and 4 master study programs) under the management of the Postgraduate School, namely: Regional Planning Doctoral Study Program ( PW), Doctoral Study Program in Natural and Environmental Resource Management (PSL), Master Program in Regional and Rural Development Planning (PWD), Master Study Program in Natural and Environmental Resource Management (PSL), Master in Management Program (MM), and Masters Study Program Property Management and Valuation (MMPP). The MMPP study program is the latest study program whose academic process began in 2011.
