اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰـهِ وَبَرَكاتُهُ ud83eudd1dnIAIN Ar-Raniry was preceded by the establishment of the Syari'ah Faculty in 1960 and the Tarbiyah Faculty in 1962 as a branch of IAIN Sunan Kalidjaga Yogyakarta. In addition, in the same year (1962), the Ushuluddin Faculty was also established as a private faculty in Banda Aceh. After several years as a branch of IAIN Yogyakarta, the faculties were affiliated to IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta for six months until IAIN Ar-Raniry was inaugurated. When it was inaugurated on October 5, 1963, with the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Number 89 of 1963.nnAs the third IAIN in the archipelago after IAIN Sunan Kalidjaga Yogyakarta and IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, IAIN Ar-Raniry continues to progress and develop. This can be seen, when IAIN Ar-Raniry was inaugurated (5 October 1963) it only had three faculties, namely the Syari'ah Faculty, the Tarbiyah Faculty and the Ushuluddin Faculty, but it was only 5 years old and the Faculty of Da'wah (1968) was also inaugurated as the first da'wah faculty. within the IAIN in Indonesia. Also in 1968, IAIN Ar-Raniry was appointed as the parent of two state religious faculties in Medan (the forerunner of IAIN North Sumatra), namely the Tarbiyah and Syari'ah Faculties which lasted for 5 years.nnTo match other IAIN-IAINs, in 1983, the Adab Faculty officially became one of the 5 faculties in IAIN Ar-Raniry.nnIAIN stands for the State Islamic Institute and the word Ar-Raniry which is attributed to IAIN Banda Aceh is the name of a great ulama and mufti who was very influential during the time of Sultan Iskandar Tsani (ruled 1637–1641). The great scholar's full name is Syeikh Nuruddin Ar-Raniry who comes from Ranir (now Rander) in Gujarat, India. He has made a very valuable contribution to the development of Islamic thought in Southeast Asia, especially in Aceh
