Prof. DR. H. Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah, owner of the pen name Hamka (born in Nagari Sungai Batang, Tanjung Raya, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, February 17, 1908 - died in Jakarta, July 24, 1981 at the age of 73) was an Indonesian scholar and writer. He spent his time as a journalist, writer, and teacher. He was involved in politics through Masyumi until the party was dissolved, served as the first Chair of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and was active in Muhammadiyah until his death. The al-Azhar University and the National University of Malaysia awarded him an honorary doctorate, while Moestopo University, Jakarta confirmed Hamka as a professor. His name was pinned for Muhammadiyah's Hamka University and was included in the list of Indonesia's National Heroes.
