Tabanio Fort or Fort Tabanio is a former historical fort as the center of Dutch military defense located in Tabanio District (now Tabanio Village), Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan. According to information, the fort was built in 1789 and the fort is bordered by the Tabanio River to the north and east, to the south by residential areas, while in the west it is bordered by the Java Sea. This fortress is located on an area of 20,000 m². Research conducted by the Banjarmasin Archeology Center has been carried out for years in three stages of excavation or excavation, to determine the extent of the structure of the Tabanio Fortress.nnThe remains of Tabanio Fort, which once triumphed in the land of Takisung, can no longer be identified in terms of shape. The former excavation carried out by the Banjarmasin Archeology Center has been covered with soil and overgrown with elephant grass. The broken bricks which became evidence of the ruins had been taken by the community for the purpose of building houses and mosques. According to records and observations, it is estimated that the area of the Fort is 20,000 square meters, 200 meters long and 100 meters wide (200 X 100 meters) surrounded by a ditch (artificial creek) on the banks of the Tabanio River. Based on the painting of Tabanio Fortress, the facing direction is towards the coast, namely the Java Sea and possibly the Tabanio Fortress cannon currently stored in the museum is also facing the same direction.nnThe neighborhood around the fort has started to be filled with people's houses, even the rest of the Bastion (West) is under the foundations of the residents' houses. It is unfortunate that the historical location that incised the Banjar Kingdom War and as proof of the strength of the Banjar Kingdom to defeat the Dutch did not get maximum attention. Seeing the beautiful surroundings of the fort with elephant grass every inch of it, Tabanio Fort becomes a tourist attraction for people outside the region and students who want to take pictures at that location. In addition, the environment around the fort functioned as a place to store livestock.nnSome of the mound points are the remains of the Bastion of Tabanio Fortress. According to Mr. Masran, who was once a BPCB trainer, the height of the bastion initially reached approximately three meters with an arrangement of bricks that were tied together and still found the remains of bullets, especially in the Bastion facing the Java Sea (West Bastion). Not much can be described for the fort, as it was almost level to the ground. Historical tracing sheds light on the shape of Tabanio Fortress, with imitation paintings kept in the museum. The painting shows the design of the front of Tabanio Fortress. The condition of Tabanio Fort is currently covered by soil and grass, and is surrounded by residential areas. At this location, some remains can be found, including bricks and bullet marks. (Edy Gunawan)
