Besides being a village, Kalumpang is also the center of 10 villages within the Kalumpang District. In recent years, this area has begun to open with the opening of access roads from Mamuju, Polmas and from the direction of Toraja. Previously, this area can only be reached by river boat lane / katinting, they even had to use 3 engine / motor: 2 motors as the driving force behind and one in front of the motor to turn left / right as well as the flow splitter is relatively heavy. The travel time is between 6-7 hours when departing from tarailu to kalumpang. In the reverse direction it can be only 4 hours because of the downward position / direction of the river flow. To get to Tarailu (where the boat ride to Kalumpang) using 4-wheeled vehicles dr Mamuju for approximately 2 hours depending on the natural conditions and many rivers that must be crossed without bridges. Not infrequently passengers have to get off and push the car that was boarded in order to cross the river.
