Traditional Floating Market in Banjarmasin City.nThe people of banjarmasin 500 years ago, they are live by the river. The new kingdom at the time was Banjar Kingdom, it located at kuin river near Barito River, the lengthiest river at the borneo island it length until 1.000 km. People were live here. The traditional floating market were the only market before it turn into landed market. The activities of the market on the river by little boat, most of the seller were women. Nowadays, it become famous and favorite tourism destination of the city. The government of the Banjarmasin try to revitalize by duplicating the floating market activities on martapura river at the center of the city. Because the original floating market were on the barito river. The government succesed with their innovation. At the floating market, you have to ride to a boat here. You not only can buy fruit and vegetable, you also can eat or drink here.

I was there in 2012. Felt local. Go by early morning, because some vendors stop selling after the sun rises.

Its really fun, a new experience for me to cruise in the widest river in kalimantan, sungai barito. There is floating market early in the morning so you need to catch them right after sunrise. You can also enjoy some foods in the floating restaurant.
