As a city located on a small island with a population of 35,000, Sabang has a relatively small city center. Nevertheless, the city center which is located along the eastern part of Sabang Bay is blessed with a special view and has a long and colorful history. Weh Island, which despite having a population since hundreds of years ago, only began to get crowded when the Dutch used it as a coal filling center for their ships in the mid-19th century. Dutch heritage buildings are still found and inhabited around the city of Sabang. Even the city layout is thick with colonial style. Colonial buildings that adorn the streets of the city become attractive tourist attractions. One of the Dutch heritage buildings on the trade street is currently used as the Bank Mandiri Sabang Office.nnThe trade road is the center of community activity in Sabang City. On this street stand shops that provide the needs of the community, coffee shops, restaurants to the public market. The Sabang traditional market is fairly clean compared to markets in other cities except for the fish market. The types of fish sold here are very diverse, fresh and have affordable prices. Fish such as cob, travelli and service can be found every day. If you want something more luxurious you can buy grouper, snapper, and squid to eat together.nnUrban communities that are only a few meters above sea level and directly adjacent to the sea still have a very close relationship with the ocean. In the afternoon the residents of Sabang are busy relaxing on the seafront or eating at the seaside restaurant. Starting at 5 pm, the men were also seen fishing at the boat harbor bridge around the city. If you like fishing, this port is the right place to relax in the afternoon. Along this seashore, fishermen also sell their fish in the afternoon which are usually sold at prices that are slightly cheaper than in the market. Many people choose to buy fish directly from fishermen because they are more assured of freshness.nnThe city center is also where you find special Sabang food. One of the most popular is shake noodles, which are boiled noodles sprinkled with fish meatball pieces that you must try. A coffee shop that provides Acehnese delicious coffee is a gathering place for young people. Here they chat, eat, drink and relax after working all day. If this is your first time to Sabang, don't miss the chance to try Acehnese noodles and mertabak available in the center of Sabang. You can order fried noodles, sauté or just boil or with additional shrimp, squid and crabs. Aceh Martabak in the form of eggs containing chili, spring onion, cabbage, and carrots fried on rolled bread. There is also fried rice and goat curry which is a favorite food of the Acehnese that can be found in special food stalls.nnThe typical Sabang souvenir is the easiest to find in the city center. Foods such as Sabang bakpia are typical souvenirs that tourists take home most often because in addition to being cheap, the taste is also typical and tasty. In addition, there are ginger dodol and various other flavors that can be bought at grocery stores along the trade street. If what you are looking for is a souvenir in the form of clothes and other handicrafts, then you will easily find a souvenir shop selling t-shirts, key chains, stickers, bags, hats, and other crafts on Trade Street, especially on the left before the end of the road.
