Masjid Syaichona Cholil

Syaikhona Muhammad Kholil is a great cleric from Bangkalan, Madura, East Java. The 105-year-old cleric who passed away in 1925 was a charismatic scholar who had hundreds of students, among them the great Nadhatul Ulama scholars in Java and Madura.nnThe title Syaikhona is pinned on him because of his high degree of knowledge so that it can give birth to a generation of great scholars under him. In addition, Syaikhona Muhammad Kholil was also confirmed as the Father of Indonesian Pesantren. Currently, right at the location of his funeral, there is one beautiful mosque which was built as a tribute to the cleric and was named the Syaikhona Muhammad Kholil Mosque.n nThe mosque that was never deserted from the pilgrims was originally a boarding school equipped with a mushroom measuring 8 × 10 meters. However, because of the need for adequate worship facilities for the surrounding community and the crowded pilgrims, in 2006 a bigger and more representative mosque was built.nnThe mosque looks very beautiful with large, sturdy buildings and ornament details scattered throughout all parts of the building. The existence of two towers that towered in the corners of the right and left wing of the building also strengthened the grandeur of the house of worship.nnSince from outside the building, calligraphy elements with golden shades appear to decorate the building. Entering the inside, visitors will pass through a space-shaped terrace with rounded ceilings made of stained decorative glass as if to give a speech for a religious journey full of beauty.n nThe inside of the mosque looks very grand and beautiful. Various golden calligraphy arts filled the entire building. The placement of the supporting poles that also use gold carved accents and mihrab that combine batik diagonal motifs with calligraphy further strengthen the feel of grandeur.nnOf all the beauty, it must be admitted that the most attention is the ceiling that follows the shape of the dome. Typical tribal streaks look very contrast with crystal chandeliers that give the impression of luxury.nnCollaboration between the beauty of the mosque building, the tomb of Syaikhona Muhammad Kholil, and the activity that was never lonely from the pilgrims made the atmosphere of this mosque so lively and very worthy of being one of the religious tourism destinations in East Java.
