Madrasah aliyah (abbreviated as MA) is a level of secondary education in formal education in Indonesia which is equivalent to high school. Management is carried out by the Ministry of Religion. Classes in the time of going to Madrasah Aliyah are the same as high school.nnIn the second year (11th grade), MA students choose one of 4 majors, namely ː Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Islamic Religious Sciences, and Language. At the end of the third year (class 12), students are required to take the National Examination. Like SMA, MA is divided into two namely, general MA which is often called MA and vocational MA.nnBasically the MA curriculum is the same as the high school curriculum, it's just that the MA has a greater portion of Islamic religious education. The following subjects are taught at the MA in addition to general subjects:nn1. Alquran and Hadithn2. Aqidah and Akhlaqn3. Islamic Jurisprudence / Sharian4. History of Islamic Culturen5. Arabic.nnSMA / MA are not included in the government compulsory education program, as are 6-year elementary school students (or equivalent) and 3-year (or equivalent) junior high school.nnIn Indonesia, ownership of madrasas aliyah is held by two bodies, namely private or the Foundation and the government (public madrasas aliyah) through the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia.
