Lamuru referred to in this paper is a sub-district within the administrative area of Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. It is located approximately 130 km from the city of Makassar in the direction of Soppeng Regency via JL. Poros Camba.nnAs is the case with other regions in Indonesia where the giving of a name implies that it relates to the situation of the place or contains ideals or expectations that are considered very vital or the description of the name because there is a historical element and the growth of the area concerned.nnOf the several myths that develop about the name Lamuru comes from the name of the person. There is an assumption that the aha of a person named Lamuru who was taken for the name of this area came from Kajuara and there were also those who came from the Tellulimpoe area. The two places are not far from Lamuru now.nnThe immortality of Lamuru's name as a place name was due to an occult event according to the perception of the community at that time. It has become a traditional custom at certain times when parties are held by nobles, and hunting is held. Lamuru is surrounded by hills, therefore it is called Lebba Tengngae which means lowland surrounded by mountains.nnOne time the area was held a hunt, suddenly one of the participants named Lamuru disappeared with his black dog. After a search was made by the community, finally only the dog was found somewhere with an attitude like waiting for something.nnBecause Lamuru was no longer found, then it was found in the place where the dog was given a stone fence as a sign. The area where Lamuru disappeared was then called Lamuru as a sign of Lamru's disappearance. While the place where the stone fence was made where the black dog was found was called Lalebata.nnIn addition to naming Lamuru from the disappearance of a hunter, there is also naming in terms of etymology, from the word in the Bugis language that is naurung which means confined. The Lamuru region is considered confined by the domains of other major kingdoms such as Bone, Soppeng, and Tanete. The word naurung is what later spells its pronunciation into Lamuru.nnThe formation of the kingdom of Lamuru is rather difficult to determine for sure, given that until now no sources or historical evidence have been found that explain when the founding of the kingdom of Lamuru.nnIt is believed that Lamuru as a settlement is quite old. This is evidenced by the discovery of marospoint preaxial artifacts and flakes which are estimated to have been approximately 2000 years before Christ because they occurred in the Mezolytic era.nnDifficulty in determining the time that also occurs in other kingdoms in South Sulawesi, this is because the discovery of historical sources in the form of lontara in South Sulawesi was found later during the reign of the king of Gowa Tumamparisi Kallonna around 1500 AD.
