Rumah Ukhi

Unfortunate my bus was very late and I arrived at 2 in the night at the hotel. The owner was still up and waiting for me and directed the taxi to the place. The next morning I could admire the place. There is a little garden in the courtyard with nice flowers. The doors are fantastic woodwork. Take a look at my pictures. Lots of small details make this place very special. But the best thing is the super friendly owner with his family. He can help you with everything. He organized my day trip and everything worked out well. I loved the breakfast in the garden. The hotel is away from the street where the rice fields begin. It is very quiet which is great to sleep and great in the day as well to relax. You can walk in the fields or enjoy the little garden of the hotel. There are shops and local restaurants on the main street - only a few minutes to walk.

This is an amazing place. Very fresh looking wood work in the rooms as well as outside. One feels like living in an heritage type of hotels but this is a very affordable homestay. The host Mr. Ukhi is very friendly, infact he arranged for us bike on rent and also let us check in much before as we reached quite early. The neighborhood is quite & clean.I will super recommend this place to anyone looking forward to explore Yogyakarta(Jogja).

ENJOYABLE AND COMFORTABLE STAY.nnPak Ukhi, his wife and son Iskandar made my 1st visit to Yogyakarta and Borobudur an enjoyable and uplifting experience. Being a solo female traveler I felt very safe and comfortable in the homestay. My suite was so clean, spacious and comfortable. I look forward to waking up early here as I get to enjoy amazing sunrise while strolling along the padi fields nearby, followed by enjoying some local coffee at the patio.nnMy stay included an amazing local breakfast spread, cooked by the beautiful Mrs Ukhi.nnTerima kasih Pak Ukhi, Mrs Ukhi and Iskandar for taking such good care and spoiling me. You all have definitely made my 1st trip to Yogyakarta a truly beautiful and memorable experience.

I will start by saying that we had a very good stay in Yogyakarta at Rumah Ukhi. Personally I think that we could’nt have had a better homstay or driver.nAs a family we really enjoyed our stay at Rumah Ukhi and we were very glad to have Ukhi as our driver.nnIf you do not value luxury, but you want personal contact/attention, flexibility, authenticity, friendliness then Ukhi is your driver with a good homestay. Homestay Rumah Ukhi is located in a kampong, about 20/30 minutes away form the center of Yogyakarta (Yogya).nInstead of the busy city life of Yogya Rumah Ukhi is an oasis of peace. But if you do want to dive into the busy city life Ukhi will bring you in no-time to: the main shopping street (Malioboro), a local market or some other busy places in Yogya.nnRumah Ukhi has simply furnished rooms, with the basic facilities: a double bed, toilet (western!), shower and air-conditioning. Outside there is a place were you can start the day relaxed with you breakfast or relax at the end of the day talking about your experiences. Every morning Ukhi is doing his utmost to make a nice breakfast for you and he will try to change it every day. It is also no problem to tell him what you don’t want to have for breakfast, his smile will not increase. When is breakfast? That is up to you ☺nnAs a driver Ukhi drove us around excellently, cautiously and carefully. Everyday we talked with him what we wanted to do / see and Ukhi advised us about the time we should leave and have breakfast. He was also willing to give suggestions. As a family we wanted to have a massage. He asked: “Do you want a massage at a hotel or a local spa?” We chose for a local spa. He took care of it and brought us to a good local spa and we enjoyed a nice massage.nAlso our trip to Bromo (unfortunately with another driver) Ukhi arranged very well. In advance we spoke about what we wanted to do and the costs. When we arrived the hotel with breakfast was booked (no luxury, but good enough for 1 night (couple of hours) sleep), on time we had our wake up call, the jeep for our transportation was arranged and even the horse ride to the edge of the Bromo was taken care of.nnThings to consider (during our stay in July 2019):n- There is a mosque in the kampong. This means 5 times a day there will be a call for praying. Also at 04.30 am in the night. This is quite loud, especially when you are a light sleeper. Solution: earplugs ☺n- Daily life in the kampong starts early. This means that you will hear homely sounds early.n- There is no hot water. Solution: fill the ‘shower barrel’ in the morning. So you will have water which is a little bit warmer for your shower in the evening ☺n- For a long trip (Bromo) another driver will be your driver.n- The shower has low pressure.n- Wifi not always available.nnSummary:n-tHomestaytt: excellentn-tHost / drivertt: flexible and friendlyn-tLanguagett: Ukhi speaks good Englishn-tPrice / Qualityt: excellent

A rare gem in a village. Beautiful sceneries, fish pond, rice paddies, friendly neighborhood. The owner, his wife and sons are extremely accomodating host. Private room with bathroom, tv, wardrobe and sink. Breakfast on the house.
