Villa Mentawai

Good n gorgeous

Stayed at this villa in April, 2017 with my family. What a place, what a location. Stunning! Pristine water, lots of snorkelling, kayaking, beach-combing for the kids. As someone pointed out....things don't happen here, they unfold.....

One of the most beautiful places and villa's I have ever been to/seen. Mr Walt and his wife Alina are sensatiinal hosts. Both are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Can't wait to come again. Children freindly and very yummy food. The speed boat is world class. Highly recommend this resort.

We took a direct flight to Padang on Air Asia from Singapore. There are daily flights and it’s so convenient. Walt who oversees everything for Villa Mentawai had organized our pickup from Padang airport. Walt handled all our logistics and more. We were greeted by Nani (a very friendly girl who speaks good English) and she coordinated our ride to Mercure hotel. We then had the rest of the day to sight see around Padang which is a really quaint town and has many interesting buildings and sights to see. Many good restaurants and bar too. After a great night out with friends, it’s off to bed for an early rise to catch the Mentawai Fast ferry out to Mentawai islands. Nani picked us up bright and early and had our tickets in hand. When we reached Tuapejat, Walt and his wife Alina (parents of Ry - a real cutie pie) were there to greet us and we were transferred across to Ratu Ombak (Queen of Waves) and so aptly named. Ratu Ombak is Villa Mentawai’s new transport boat for the guest. This boat’s performance is incredible and she can move really smooth and fast and in no time we’ve arrived at our home for the next 3 nights. The water is so crystal clear and you can see the different shades of blue/turquoise across the horizon. It’s teemed with so much sea life. Villa Mentawai have SUPs, Kayaks, surfboards, long softboards, snorkeling gears, hammocks, table tennis etc. Agus and his wife Yuni (they are very friendly, polite and most welcoming and parents to another very cute baby called William) looks after house keeping and food (3 meals a day and the local Sumatran coffee is divine). They cooked really yummy food and the sambal is simply so amazing you’ll be asking for the recipe. Walt was catering to our food request too like steak which we were served one night was done just right with a nice pink center and we had wanted lobster and Agus cooked us chilli lobster-lip smacking good that is. Ratu Ombak has been our main form of transportation taking us from the Villa to the various surf / snorkeling locations. Such breathtaking views as you pass by the many islands of Mentawai. Kayaking through the mangrove just behind the Villa is so peaceful. You can see the school of fishes as you SUP. Water is so warm you can stay in the water forever when you snorkel or dive. We saw many lobsters and wished we brought the lobster catcher. Try counting the different species of fish, I guarantee you’ll lose count. There were lots of squids too. When we wanted a lazy afternoon to relax, we just plonked ourselves in the hammock beneath the coconut trees. (The fruits have been plucked). You have a constant supply to fresh coconut and if you’re creative you could do some pretty great cocktails with coconut water. Villa Mentawai - It’s a paradise where good people meet! So the time to return to reality is inevitable and it was time to bid farewell to Villa Mentawai. Thank you Walt, Alina, Agus, Yuni, Danus, Sumen, Nani and Doni (Doni had another group and could not attend to us when we arrived at Padang but he picked us up when we returned from Villa Mentawai to Padang).
