North Sulawesi is an area occupied by three foreign nations, namely Spain, the Netherlands and Japan.nnMany historical relics are authentic evidence of the era of colonialism. One of them is a cave inherited from Japan in Kiawa Village, Kawangkoan District, Minahasa Regency.nThis cave is said to be a place to store food and armory during the Japanese occupation period of 1942-1945.nThere are several holes made under the Kiawa hills. This cave is made with several doors and has access and is interrelated with one hole with another.nFor a long time, this cave has become an attractive tourist attraction for tourists. But for tourists who come to visit must bring their own lighting to enter or just take pictures.nThe front of the cave is only covered by a bamboo fence made by the surrounding community. Tens of years ago, local residents still offered services to accompany tourists by using lighting torches inside.nWhile accompanying tourists, the community also shares creation stories and mystical stories in caves that are told from generation to generation. However, this has not been found in the past few years.nFrom the information, this cave was built in 1943 and finished a year later, in 1944. The workers came from the surrounding communities of the Minahasa tribe. This cave was built multifunctionally after conducting a location survey. Under this cave there is a valley crossed by the river which is a strategic and optimal place for a fort.nIn addition to storing food logistics materials, I am used to store fuel stocks and complete weapons with ammunition. In each meeting the cave hall, guarded by a group of Japanese troops.nIf you look at the location of the cave, this place is really strategic. The location of the cave is right at the turn. From this position, the vehicle that comes 2 km before the cave can be seen. Likewise, from the other side, I can see objects coming far before approaching the cave.nFrom the top of the hills, of course the wider the area can be seen. The area of the valley below the cave is increasingly consecrating this cave to be the perfect location for hiding places.nThis cave was abandoned after Japan surrendered to the Allied troops in August 1945 when two major cities in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed by an Atomic bomb.nnUnfortunately, due to lack of attention, this government seems to have been left for a long time and received no treatment. The never restored cave was finally covered in landslides on 12 February 2017.nnIf only the government at that time was sensitive and made a hill block and restored the contents of the cave, the place would definitely become a leading tourist destination in MInahasa, North Sulawesi.nAlso read: Tomohon Market, Extreme Local Wisdom CulinarynnHowever, rice has become porridge, my Japanese friend Kawangkoan is a memory.nEven so, tourists can still enjoy the remains of the cave that still exists. Tourists can also see the photos on the internet that had been captured by previous visitors.nAlthough the authentic evidence can no longer be enjoyed, the Minahasa will always be remembered as an area that was once the headquarters of the Japanese army. Headquarters to store logistics and weapons during the occupation in Indonesia.
