The Regional Library and Archives Agency of Banten Province was formed in 2008 starting from a change in the SOTK SKPD in the Banten Provincial Government, from the incorporation of SKPD that handled the library, namely the Library Office and SKPD which handled electronic data, namely the Electronic Data Center and Regional Archives. Institution which was originally an office after the issuance of Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2008 concerning the Organizational Structure and Work Procedure of the Regional Library and Archives Agency became a Regional Technical Agency, namely the Banten Provincial Library and Archives Agency.nAlong with regulatory changes in 2012 the organizational structure and work procedures of the Banten Province area were determined based on Banten Provincial Regulation Number 3 of 2012 concerning the Establishment of Banten Province Regional Device Organizations, the Regional Library and Archives Agency as follows:n-The Library and Regional Archives Agency is a supporting element of the tasknGovernor in the area of ​​libraries and regional archives.n-The Library Agency and Regional Archives are led by a Head of Agencynwho is responsible to the Governor through the Regional Secretary.

The name is now the Banten Provincial Library and Archives Service. BPAD is an old name.
