Coral Paradise Resort

We rent an underwater camera from this resort. However, we didn’t even take 5 pictures when the battery drained and the screen blacked out. We were disappointed since it was our last day in Raja Ampat and we didn’t even get any pictures. When we resurfaced back to the boat, the monitor is filled with water. Upset, we returned the camera. However, the owner demanded us to pay for the camera as if it’s new. Mind you, according to the memory card data this camera was last used in 2017 and reading from the guarantee seal, it was bought no later than 2015.nWe ran a test in front of the staffs: putting the camera into water and not even 2 minutes, lo and behold, water seeped from every possible input/output hole. The seal didn’t even work.nWe ended up still paying for it since the owner rudely told us to drown our phones in the ocean in exchange.nThe owner didn’t even meet us in person, only angrily yelled at us through the staff’s phone.nSo we left with no pictures and extra expense for something we did absolute zero wrong in.nNow, this is just a tiny Canon D30 camera that we rent. Can you imagine your whole trip if you spend it here?

Rude and unfriendly owner.nWe never stayed here during our holiday at raja ampat, but we did encounter a terrible experience with the owner of the resort whereby we rented a camera for underwater picture from her. Our mistake for thinking that she is a honest and good person. We never really try the camera under the water but instead just taking a normal photo on the land during the testing. We brought the camera along for our 1st snorkeling trip on that day and just less than 5 minutes (around 2-3 shots of photos), there was a sign of battery needed to be changed, which is a surprise for us since the battery is full just before we enter the water. We decided to bring it up to our speed boat after we finished our snorkeling thinking that we just need to change or charge the battery later on. However, we noticed the LCD screen of the camera was immerse with water and by then we suspected that the seal of the camera is broken even before it was rented to us. When we told the owner about the camera and explained the situation, the owner get very defensive and start to demand us to fully pay back the camera. The next day, we decided to meet and talk to the owner calmly and showed that the seal of the camera is faulty but she refused to show up and instead sending the employee to meet us (we suspect that she is afraid to talk and meet us directly because we are able to document the whole thing). When we met and talked to the employee, we showed them that indeed there is an issue with the seal with a simple experiment by dipping it into a bucket of water for less than 1 min and all the inside compartment of the camera was immersed with water. The employee kinda feel bad about it but they mentioned that the owner demand must be met because the owner is a very unreasonable and does not care about any explanation. Then we tried to call the owner directly but being rejected and finally she made the call, yelled and blamed us about the whole event without giving us any chance to reason to at all and and demand us to pay back and hung up the phone. We tried to call back again but being rejected. Finally, we decided to pay her for not wanting to drag the issue any longer since there will be zero chance to solve this whole issue with a constructive manner and to avoid the passing blame to the employee. Therefore, do think twice if you want to stay here since Raja Ampat is truly a great place for holiday and you don't want to spoil the whole experience just because of this. Thanks!

Amazing upscale resort in Bangks Island run by western people.

Bad experience with this resort. Trying to rent an underwater camera, only last for 5 mins underwater, battery immediately drained off. Worse, when returning back the owner requested to payback for the spoilt camera. Tested in front of the staff and proven water is leaking into the battery and hdmi compartment (proving bad sealing). In the end they insisted on paying IDR 1.5 million (approximately 150 USD). Due chasing ferry back to Sorong, in the end we paid.
