The village isn't particularly interesting but if you are in the area make sure you go to the nearby honey farm that is way more exciting. At the village entrance they suggest you pay a donation immediately once you arrive and then someone walks with you. The man we walked with pretty quickly took us to his house where he was trying to get us to buy the scarfs made by his mother. We didn't need the scarfs and he got pretty annoyed with us and the tour ended pretty much straight after.

In the 1970s, this village was a unique opportunity for anthropologists to study a secluded and traditional community. As a result, this village has become known to the general public for its unique Bali Aga culture and the flow of tourists has started. Both developments which unfortunately make the unique character and culture of the village irrevocably changing. The village has the traditional layout of the Bali Aga: along the longitudinal axis of the village (always aligned between sea and mountains) is a series of communal buildings with the entrance gate of the village on the south side. There are two wide streets on either side of the shared buildings where the residents' houses are located. In a number of these houses the visitor can find the double ikat fabrics for which the village is known. The village is free to visit (a voluntary donation is appreciated), you will not be bothered by souvenir vendors and you can walk around at your leisure. Not an exciting destination (certainly not around noon), but still nice enough to do if you're in the area.

One of the oldest villages in Bali. It is worth visiting and feeling like travelers in time. A guide will tell you the really amazing story of this village.

The village is still themed like the original Balinese villagers about more than a decade ago. What a classic atmosphere there even for me as a balinese. Must do when you visit east of Bali.
