My guide brought me to see the kecak dance at Pura Dalem Tama Kaja (temple) after a day of scuba diving up north. It was very exciting to hear the vocal chorus chanting with such exuberant energy. The story was conveyed by the actors in elaborate costumes, the dances and the chant-song that the singing male chorus accompanied the stage action.

Kecak dance was really interesting and entrancing with dozens of men chanting in unison and very good female dancers. Leaflets handed out prior make following the story very easy, however the “fire” part at the end is just a guy kicking fire embers around, looked really painful and didn’t add anything to the main story unless I missed something.

Beautiful temple with a mesmerising Kecak fire dance show most nights at 7.30pm local time.nI would definitely recommend going to experience some of the indigenous history and culture. It’s a breathtaking experience something you might not have ever seen before

The fire dance is performed by 100 men or so: they chant and sing throughout the performance. The group act out a famous sorry through dance and the performance ends with a fire show. The choir continue to chant as another member kicks the embers of coconuts (as pictured). I paid 110,000IDR (7€). I would recommend to go and see.
