Superb hike, I went left to to to the summit from the crater, and dont revommend doing so as the rock is very loose and it's very dangerous

First of all: must do if you on Flores Island! Unique experience! But: don’t underestimate the hike. It took us 2,5h to go up and 1h45 to come down without a guide. It is -in contrary to what others describe- quite tough. Remember: when you see the top or think what the summit is; the real summit is still behind it. Take enough water & food for energy. Coming down is sometimes tricky: be careful because no ambulance or helicopter will pick you up. Local people at our resort were quite impressed we did this hike, indicating they know how tough it can be.

While housing options are short in nearby cities, very few tourists make the trip to Mount Egon.nnNot only did we get an active volcano to ourselves - but the path is manageable without a tour guide or assistance.

Fantastic hike with beautiful scenery all around. Not to be underestimated - there are some good rocky bits to be careful on.
