Thousands of hectares of the Belitang area are planted with rice. Belitang has become a rice granary for the Province of South Sumatra and even nationally. Almost all Presidents in this country have done a Great Harvest in Belitang, starting with Mr. Soeharto,nMrs. Megawati Soekarno Putri, to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2005. The progress of agriculture in Belitang is inseparable from the active role of Agricultural Instructor who always provides counseling to farmers. Apart from that, another thing that is also supportive is the existence of irrigation channels that have existed since the Dutch colonial era. This irrigation channel originates from the Komering River, one of the rivers in the province of South Sumatra, which originates in the Musi River. With adequate agricultural facilities and a large area, it is only natural for Belitang to be a transmigration destination. Due to the progress achieved, on January 17 2007, the minister of manpower and transmigration, represented by the Director General of P2MK, inaugurated Belitang as an Integrated City of Mandir (KTM).
